What They Found in Her Car

What They Found in Her Car

From what I’ve learned along the way, I’ve determined that the following items were left behind inside of Brianna Maitland’s abandoned vehicle. In the front seat:

Two paychecks addressed to Brianna Maitland on the front passenger seat.

One Styrofoam takeout box with half of a sandwich inside on the front passenger floor.

A marijuana leaf trinket with the text “Emerald Bay”.

A cut out image of Angelina Jolie from an article in the August 2003 issue of Cosmopolitan Magazine with the text, “Angelina Holds Nothing Back”, taped to the ceiling.

Beer bottle caps, glued over radio dials.

Multiple cigarette butts in the vehicle’s ash tray.

A small card with a graphic of a fairy standing in front of a waterfall, in the driver’s visor.

In the backseat:

Two red solo cups on the floor behind the passenger’s seat.

Three cases of food items, including tuna and Campbell's Chunky Soup, behind the driver's seat.

A CD player with headphones behind the passenger’s seat.

An ice scraper behind the passenger’s seat.

An empty beer bottle on the driver’s side backseat.

Multiple samples were collected from the backseat's fabric by the Vermont State Police for forensic testing. The patches can be seen in the above photograph.

In the trunk, there was luggage, clothing, and other personal items. In the vicinity of Brianna’s abandoned vehicle, her broken necklace, some loose change and a plastic water bottle were found on the ground beside the driver’s side door. A lime wedge was found atop the trunk. On Crawlspace, we previously reported that there was an unlit cigarette on the ground as well. Private investigators Lou Barry and Greg Overacker separately told me that this was an unconfirmed rumor. I am seeking the full inventory of Brianna’s vehicle. Should I acquire it, I will post an update.

What do you think about what was left behind? Do you think any of these items are relevant to the mystery?

  1. Nice job Chloe. In late 2004 I read about Brianna Maitland's disappearance online while at work. I read that her father reported Brianna did have car-keys with a large metallic key-fob. I called her parents and having 20 some years experience metal detecting offered to find the car keys. Myself, I never reported whether I was successful or not. Greg Overacker PI finally did report, correctly, neither I nor anyone else ever found her car-keys. Also to add to your inventory was a car ashtray full of a variety of cigarette butts, as I recall, Marlboro, Winston and L&M's. I do believe what was found in the car, and maybe even more importantly, the condition of the car's interior is very relevant. Her car was very neat and orderly. There was no sign of a struggle - the styrofoam box with a half-eaten burrito in it was completely intact, almost like she'd eaten half of it herself, or had recent company; the fact that it was undamaged clearly shows no struggle. I suggest "recent company" due to the fact her car was so neat and tidy. A final clue that can be seen on the carpet on the driver's side door jam - a light colored angular spot on the carpet, near the left-front curve of her driver's seat was, according to MJA Investigations, who claim to have had it analyzed, shows vomit ( and that is what it looked like to me). Her mother told me Brianna had not been feeling well. Had recently seen the doctor. Had Brianna been eating the burrito after getting it from work, got half-way through eating it and gotten sick? Did she pull over because there was a street-lamp across the road from the Dutchburn place? To me everything in and about her car seems relevant. To me it had always appeared she casually pulled off the road, that someone may have been following her and also pulled in after her; at that point Brianna panicked and tried to flee the scene, likely recognizing who it was, not realizing the transmission was set in reverse, or in her haste, accidently put it in reverse which caused her to back into the farm-house where the rear of the car got hung-up on the foundation, sealing her fate.

Her car speaks to me of a bold, young woman full of dreams, organized and not afraid to be herself.

  2. I’m not sure if it is fact, but I do remember it being reported she had cans of tuna in the car as well?

  3. Looks like groceries purchased in bulk behind the driver's seat. Campbell's Chunky Soup, and what looks like Annie's white mac & cheese and Starkist tuna fish. (There's a Costco in Colchester, just north of the Winooski town line.)

  5. Chloe, what is the exact location of the found jeans in the woods? Can you get the coordinates on a map? That is very strange, and sticks out like a sore thumb, how many times did you go in the cornfield or woods and see jeans scattered there? For me, none. I've come to the conclusion that there won't be jeans just left in the woods, as I've never seen it, I asked my friends and family if they've ever encountered just a random pair of jeans in the woods and they all said no, to me that might be Brianna's pair of pants... This investigation is a fuck up, and everyone who has the information is keeping it all secretive, from the DNA to the information on the pants, to the Atlantic City footage, to the confessions of Joker, to the affidavat and confession of Ellen Ducharme, the whole entire thing is one mind fuck that wont end, and to me, I believe a few close people or insiders have all the information and aren't using it for the greater good, or too scared to do something about it. I think there is a grand conspiracy involved with Brianna. Chloe hit me up.

    1. The cops ruled the jeans out, didn't they?

They have no reason to say why...

As for clothing being found out and about, I've seen coats, jeans, underwear, socks, even sports kit...they could be lost by someone or just found their way there by strong winds off of someone's clothes' line.

I live in the UK and on the way up and on the top of Snowden I've found Big Mac boxes, panties, Boxer shorts, toddler romper suits...and on the side of the road all kinds of clothing that people throw out of cars for one reason or other, maybe a stag or hen do, maybe they stole someone's car with laundry in it...what youths find amusing has never surprised me...

  7. It seems strange that she did not have some sort of purse that may have contained some of the items in the car? And the lime wedge - it would not have stayed on the trunk during the reverse impact with the house ... was there a planned meetup after work involving tequila shots?? I pray to God this gets solved one day, for Bruce, Kellie, Tammy and all loved ones involved.

  8. Good to see people are still interested and commenting. I'm the "Bob Kates" who provided some of the photos. I'm still kicking here and doing my part.

At the time, to answer some questions - all of which Chloe can refute, if there's doubt I am who I am, Brianna lived in her car around the time. She chose odd ways to survive having jobs rather distant from each other. She didn't like being home, wherever home was, she loved her car - a gift from her Grandfather. She was driving when she wasn't working or going to school.

No idea where a pair of jeans became evidence. There are no such jeans.

Regarding the purse... excellent question and one in my younger years I may have known. I want to say Brianna didn't like carrying a purse. But then she must have had stuff so I will look into this.

I noticed in Chloe's post she mentioned the Styrofoam container on the floor of the passenger seat. The police, btw, were very good at processing her car. As far as I know anything in it was still there, near to it's original position - including her car seat... The Styrofoam contain contained a half-eaten mummified burrito. Taped to the cover of the container was a cutout from a magazine featuring a race car. The container was in no way damaged. It is unlikely she had a passenger - the Styrofoam container would not have been where it was.

One can't help but think, she was dragged out of the car, but there was no indication of a struggle in the car. Besides, Brianna wasn't one to respond to a dangerous situation in her own dangerous way. She was a black-belt in Jujitsu.

The front seat was the kind that it was one piece. The controls were rather difficult to reach to the left of the driver and having to reach down to the bottom of the seat to find them. The seat was moved up for a slender female... I'm a slender male and it was very tight for me.

Apologies Chloe... I stumbled back upon this post and figured I'd update a few things. Thank-you for the recognition in the photos.
